Occupational Therapy

We are Specialists in Paediatric Occupational Therapy Services

We use evidence-based, family-centred, and neurodiverse-affirming approaches to support children aged 3 to 12 develop the skills they need to improve their participation and confidence in their everyday activities. We specialise in delivering tailored therapy sessions, assessments, strategies and resources for children with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Down Syndrome, Developmental Delay, and Intellectual Disabilities. Therapy sessions can take place at home, school, kindergarten, childcare, or within the community.

Sensory Processing Skills

Sensory Processing refers to how individuals perceive and respond to sensory information, including sight, hearing, touch, taste, movement, and proprioception.

Everyone processes sensory input differently, with their own unique sensory preferences and aversions. An individual’s sensory processing patterns directly influence their ability to engage in various activities and environments. When sensory needs are unmet, individuals may experience challenges with emotional regulation, participation in activities, behaviour, relationships and their overall well-being.

A Sensory Profile Assessment can be completed by a parent, caregiver and/ or teacher, to help identify a child’s specific sensory needs. This information can guide the development of individualised strategies to support a child’s participation across all contexts, including home, school and the community.

Emotional Regulation Skills

We work with children to develop their emotional regulation skills in a positive and empowering way. Therapy sessions may focus on assisting children in regulating their emotions through co-regulation approaches, building their interoceptive-awareness skills, exploring emotions, learning to communicate emotions effectively, and developing personalised strategies for managing emotions—all with the primary goal of strengthening relationships and fostering participation in daily activities and routines.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Fine Motor Skills involve small muscle movements, such as using the hands and fingers for tasks such as handwriting, buttoning shirts, or using utensils.

Gross Motor Skills involve large muscle movements, such as walking, running, jumping, or throwing a ball.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills work together and are important for completing everyday tasks.

We provide comprehensive, standardised Fine and Gross Motor assessments to evaluate a child’s motor skills – including Fine Manual Control; Manual Coordination; Body Coordination; and Strength and Agility. We determine how a child’s motor skills may be impacting on their performance in daily activities.

Handwriting Skills

We provide assessments to evaluate a child’s handwriting and related skills. Our assessments focus on areas such as posture, letter formations, spacing, writing on the line, pencil grip, handwriting speed, and visual-motor skills. We develop personalised strategies and therapy sessions to improve a child’s handwriting legibility and fluency.

Play Skills

We support children to participate in meaningful and enjoyable play activities, such as pretend play and collaborative play with other children.

Self-Care Skills

We support children to engage in their everyday routines, such as teeth brushing, showering/bathing, dressing and toileting.

Executive Function Skills

Executive Function Skills refer to the cognitive processes that help individuals plan, organise, and execute activities. These skills are key for school success and independence.

  • Foundational Executive Function Skills: include response inhibition, working memory, emotional control, flexibility, sustained attention, and task initiation.
  • Advanced Executive Function Skills: include planning/prioritising, organisation, time management, goal directed persistence, and metacognition.

We offer Executive Function assessment for children and develop strategies to support their development by intervening at the level of the child and/or environment.

Self-Awareness Skills

Self-Awareness Skills gives individuals the tools they need to understand themselves better, which ultimately leads to more control over their emotions, actions, and decisions. With more knowledge of oneself comes more control, which in turn promotes self-acceptance, empowerment, and helps reduce mental health challenges.

We help children develop self-awareness skills through various approaches suited to the child’s age and needs. This may include teaching them about neurodiversity and their specific neurotype in a strengths-based way, and/or exploring other important aspects of themselves.
